Simple Math
Every moment I spend
not thinking my own
thoughts is a subtraction.
If I am watching TV
or scrolling the news or
filtering the already
filtered world into my
cup, I am less than I
could be if I were to
take a walk, paint a wall,
write a poem, cook
a meal, place my own
hands upon the world.
I am divided daily
through screens and all
the stories around me-
the posts and broadcasts,
the updates and live streams,
and I feel, of course I feel
the me in me responding,
but I am a fraction of
myself when I accumulate,
consume, accrue. While
I am whole when I create,
and exponentially so.
