Poem: August 12, 2019

Rain in August

You said we could use the rain,
and here it is, a proper shower,
going on forty minutes, enough
to wash the dust away, enough
to cool the pavement, enough
to go down deep and loosen
the soil, and I hear it at the
window, music, a whisper,
the soft crescendo of water.
